For Now

Inside there are babies being born, cancer being treated, lives saved, some lost as families rejoice or cope with their loss, doctors and nurses missing their families, security working the holiday to make time and a half so they might be able to buy something nice for their girlfriend, a world of people coming together to heal and be healed while outside a gang of thugs drives up to another gang of thugs and opens fire.

And when the smoke clears the dead and dying join the rest of the civilized world inside the hospital walls, where for now the civilized outnumber the animals.

For now.

The shooting ha penned on July 3rd, five minutes from my house, and a few seconds from the doors of Rhode Island Hospital, Woman and Infants Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
