Gang member threatens to kill Jersey City Police and EMT’s. Read the story here:
Social media was all a-twitter yesterday when this “story” broke. Seems we love nothing more that a good old fashioned threat. Please keep in mind that this was an isolated incident, gang members are not that bright, a threat was made, anybody working in gang plagued areas should be on alert when responding before or after this ill-advised Facebook post.
Ridiculous commentarry by people in our profession plays right into the dregs of society’s hands. Bringing people down to their level is much easier than bringing people up to ours. Somebody needs to maintain dignity or all is lost.
Might as well be us setting the standard for decency.
From EMS World, coincidentally published yesterday:
“Where’s James?†he shouted, frantic, his street cool shattered.
“I don’t know,†I replied honestly. “Stay still, I need to stop this bleeding.â€
“I don’t care about that,†he said, shoving my hands away from the wound near his biceps. It looked like the bullet missed anything major, probably just a flesh wound.
“Do that again and I’ll break your fingers,†I replied. There is a way of threatening to do bodily harm that puts patients at ease. What can I say? I guess it’s a gift. It helps being seasoned when dealing with gang members. They don’t feel threatened by somebody old enough to be their dad. If they even had one.
