Maybe it's time to have a Medical service, which will have both an emergency component and a community component; and stop relegating medical care to being the red-headed step-child of the public services. The MFR's gain some amount of patient care experience and it helps them to build up to takeing their EMT and eventually their Paramedic courses. If a municipality or private ambulance company wants to delegate people to providing house calls and wellness checks be my guest, makes sense to me, but mark my words, first responders will suffer, and by doing so the communities they protect will bear the brunt.
